There is currently one project available for Unit 14. It was developed in September 2004 in association with Laira Green Primary School, Plymouth. Thanks are due to Jill Selwood (English Coordinator) for her support and interest in developing this project.

During this project children explored characters and stories depicted through images. The children undertook research, selected a favourite mythological character (Medusa in this case) and then developed 3D model-making skills to produce their own interpretation of the character. The skills and processes involved would enable a class to investigate and gain an understanding of any area of Greek Mythology and include any art media. It could also be used to develop the aspect of historical or creative role play.

Greek Handling Collection & Support Visits
A resource box of replica artefacts of the Greek period is available for loan to any school local to Plymouth intending to carry out this project using the images from the Cottonian Collection. This may be requested at the time of emailing for the Teacher's pack on the 'Contact Us' page.

In addition, the museum's Education Department offers other items, including weaponry, and is able to support this project through visits to schools by one of the staff. To find out more and book such a visit, please contact the Education Department direct on (01752) 304771.

A range of images have been selected from the prints and illustrated books in the Cottonian Collection to support the 'Who were the Ancient Greeks' project. They include individual studies of specific mythological characters and a series of illustrations of the Illiad by Homer.
