What were the differences between
Rich and Poor in Tudor Times? |
There is currently one project available for Unit 8. It was developed during 2004 in conjunction with two Plymouth schools Plympton St. Maurice Primary and Tamerton Vale Primary. Thanks are due to Barry Coppins, Deputy Headteacher and Sally Cresswell, History Co-ordinator & Deputy Headteacher respectively for their enthusiastic support in the production of this project.

The activities developed in conjunction with these 2 Plymouth schools cover the differences between rich & poor in Tudor times, look at a key figure from the period and cross both the Art & History curricula.

Historical Re-enactment Character
For Session 1 a local 'living' historical re-enactment character was hired to enhance the children's experience of the period. For schools local to Plymouth, the character was Sir Francis Drake - the contact details for this are: Brian Whip - Plymouth (01752 843002).
For schools not in the Plymouth area, local re-enactment characters can be found through Academic Councils and schools groups. It might also be useful to try www.livinghistory.co.uk or ask your local museum as a starting point.

Tudor Handling Collection
A selection of replica artefacts of the Tudor period is available for loan to any school local to Plymouth intending to carry out this project using the images from the Cottonian Collection. This may be requested at the time of emailing for the Teacher's pack on the 'Contact Us' page.
