Aim
The web site has been designed to create wider access to the Cottonian Collection and makes available a variety of images of items not physically available for display in the gallery. It is intended for all users - casual browsers, specialists and educators alike.

Content: There are three main sections:
1. Cottonian Collection Site
The main pages of the site are devoted to the Cottonian Collection and contain information and images concerning the history and general content of the collection.
2. Education Pages
A section of the Cottonian Collection site are pages devoted to the Educational use of the collection. These include projects created by local Plymouth teachers using images from the collection. Currently, they are based on the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 & 2 for Art and History.
3. Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery Site
The Cottonian Collection forms part of the Art collections housed within the Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery.

Design & Construction
The site was constructed and developed by LiveWire Internet Ltd.

Feedback/Comments
We are interested to hear from all users in order to better understand needs and incorporate ideas into future developments of the site. If you have any comments about the content, appearance and/or functionality of the site we would very much like to hear from you - either send us an e-mail or complete the on-line questionnaire.

Funding
The creation of the sites was made possible through the Designation Challenge Fund, administered by the MLA. Designation status was awarded to the Cottonian Collection by the Museums and Galleries Commission (now the MLA) in 1998. The scheme funded a variety of projects between 1999 and 2004, including documentation, photography and digitisation of the collection, the development of a public computer terminal in the Cottonian gallery and the creation of the Cottonian Collection web site.
Additional funding for these developments was provided by Plymouth City Council.
